And what a day it was!

Some inanimate object..

A simple inaninmate object is what most people would refer a hulahoop to, sometimes wrapped in pretty tape, some are bigger than others, sometimes they’re on fire, some have lights in them. “They’re just a plastic circle..”, well yes, to all of the above. But this plastic geometric shape just happens to be one of my most treasured items I’ve ever had.

Funny, this inanimate lifeless object has taught me more about living then most people have. It’s been a short relationship with my hoop, but some people say those are the best kinds, and regardless, I plan to be with my hoop for years to come. Pearl, I call her.  She doesn’t get jealous when I play with my other hoops, which is nice, she teaches me about giving space to the ones you love. Pearl always appreciates the time we spend together, but knows we can’t always be together, this is something that we’re learning to deal with together. As fun as it is to be surrounded constantly by her plastic and tape, I too must be alone and spend time with my schoolwork and my friends.

Pearl lends herself to me, she creates a sacred space in which I twirl about. Lending yourself, what a lesson to learn. You should lend yourself to others, but you need to remember to give yourself to yourself. Be aware of what the temple that is your body, mind and soul need. My temple, it moves as I’ve never known it to before. Pearl taught me how to appreciate my hips and curves and petit build. I have filmed time and time again, I have seen flaws in every aspect of my physical body, but I am able to see past it all now.  I see my beauty in ever isolation, spin, lift and flail. It spills out of my smile and my eyes and my newly learned tricks. I may be in a relationship with my hulahoop, but I am even more inlove with myself than I ever have been before because of her.

And sometimes, at night, when it’s just us two, we sit together and we meditate. Preferably outside in the grass with a blanket, sometimes our LED joins us too. Then us 3 make sweet, sweet rhythmical love as their curves meet my curves and we spin, twirl, jump, duck; all the while embracing the night that is around us. The moon above us, the stars and trees too, they’re all around watching our extravagant last dance before I succumb to the fatigue that creeps inside.

Until tomorrow, I whisper to myself before putting my hulahoops to rest for the night. And at that I crawl into my own nest, thinking sweet blissful thoughts about feeling the wet grass between my toes, the breeze in this hair and the good vibes my hoops bestow on me.

A cup of tea and a morning hoop, ah, keep it surreal!

My very first homemade cosmic tutu, time to put it to the hoop test.
